CEREC is an innovative form of technology to do dental jobs that allows the dentist to design and manufacture new restorations and dental devices on site; new devices can be made in a matter if minutes or hours, rather than the patient having to wait around two weeks for their new restoration to be manufactured in a dental laboratory.

There are a number of advantages of CEREC; one of the most obvious advantages is that patients don’t have to wait to have their treatment; though things like a root canal will have an effect this also means they only have to have one set of local anaesthetic injections and they don’t need to have temporary restorations. Using CEREC also means patients have to visit their dentist only once or twice instead of three or four times.

CEREC technology, widely available in the UK and the capital itself through a range of London dentists, can create new onlays, crowns, veneers and inlays. The CEREC technology works by using digital photography to design and manufacture your new restoration; an image that is taken using a special kind of camera is made into a 3D image by the computer, which serves as a template for the new restoration. Patients don’t have to have and moulds or impressions created and the restoration can then be made up, rather than the images or mould having to be sent away to a laboratory; the newest model can create new crowns in just six minutes!

Obviously not all dental practices have this kind of technology but it is becoming increasingly popular amongst dental practices as it can be very cost-effective in the long-run.
